Universal Signs makes a donation to Dogs for the Deaf, Inc.

Dogs for the Deaf (DFD) was founded in 1977 by the late Roy G. Kabat, a long-time Hollywood and circus animal trainer who raised animals for motion pictures and television shows including "Dr. Doolittle" and "Born Free." His daughter, Robin Dickson, is his successor and the CEO/President of Dogs for the Deaf.

Hearing Dogs are chosen from animal shelters. Once trained, they are placed in loving homes where they provide valuable and even life saving benefits.

Ann Calamia and Catherine Miller Teach Filmaking Workshop at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf
Ann Calamia and Catherine Miller volunteer at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf where they taught a filmmaking workshop to fourteen drama students. The workshop featured tryouts for a mock casting call, photographing headshots and learning editing techniques. Ann and Catherine also filmed three “commercials” that starred and were written by the children. Robert DeMayo, ASL consultant, regularly teaches the after school drama program and requested Ann and Catherine’s participation. The pair gladly lent a hand.

Starbucks hosts ASL workshops for its employees

The Seattle-based coffee company generously contributed to Universal Signs and Creative Access through their "Make Your Mark" program. The program matches their partners’ and customers’ volunteer hours with cash contributions to designated nonprofits. Creative Access provided ASL workshops to Starbucks employees at various local stores in Philadelphia, the suburbs and New Jersey. Employees learned the signs for the entire Starbucks menu! Every hour of time donated by a Starbucks employee was matched with cash contributions to Creative Access for the production of Universal Signs.

Thanks to the following Creative Access members for teaching the Starbucks ASL workshops:

Mike Canfield, Robert DeMayo, Abby and David Longo, PJ and Lynnette Mattiacci, Megan and Rebecca Rainone.
