Ann Calamia, writer/director
Ann Calamia has co-owned and operated HNH
Multimedia Productions, a
successful industrial film, Web, and multimedia company, for the
last eleven years. Universal Signs is her directorial debut.
For story
inspiration and the writing of Universal Signs, Ann draws
upon not only her own life experiences and careful observation
of others,
but also her education from the University of Pennsylvania
in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated with honors attaining a Bachelors
of Science in Nursing and receiving the distinguished Sandy Lai Moy
Memorial Award for outstanding academic and clinical achievement
in critical care and trauma care. Her nursing specialty is post-surgical
cardiac care and cardiac rehabilitation. Before embarking on writing
this screenplay, Ann conducted comprehensive research into all aspects
of the story. She interviewed members of the Deaf community about
their
life experiences, language and culture. It was most important to
Ann that she be true to the Deaf experience while telling a universal
story
that all people, hearing and Deaf, can enjoy.
